Woke up this morning in a thick, warm and humid fog this morning at Tri-Corner Knob Shelter. As the fog was blown against the screen door of my tent it started making things wet, but not too bad. Had a quick breakfast and got hiking.
The fog burned off rather quickly today. The sun came out and it felt warm. I hiked in shorts and the sleeves on my shirt rolled up.
Had some great landscape views today. Also saw and smelled entire hillsides covered in wildflower blooms. A few small blue butterflies were out and some birds were starting to mate.
It was a great day on the AT. Today was a mostly downhill hill. Covered about 17 miles today, dropped about 4,500 feet in elevation and exited Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Tonight, I am camped at a stealth site along acreek with several small waterfalls. Just me and 1 guy I was hiking with.
Expecting some rain and thunderstorms anytime now (tonight). Nothing severe as far as I can tell. I am all hunkered down just in case. Here it comes, I hear the roar of the wind in the trees starting just now.

What beautiful flowers along the trail. They must love all the rain you’ve been trekking through. We need rain here to get rid of this snow so it can warm up, than we can wear shorts to.

I’ve been taking care of my daughter’s dog -a female Rhodesian Ridgeback about one year old (maybe 18 mos.) and 60-70#. She’s keeping me busy while the family is out of town. Tonight I had my weekly Ham Radio ‘net,’ an on-the-air meeting via radio, to exchange information with other members and check out the radio gear, and our operational procedures. Snow is almost all gone here now, mid 30’s to mid 40’s daytime -even broke 50 degrees a few days ago. I think snowshoeing season is over… now thinking of backpacking and hiking destinations for spring/summer/fall. It’s all good! 😉
