Day 57

I woke up this morning and just wanted to stay in my sleeping quilt and listen to the small waterfall I camped next to. I had to settle for getting up and eating my morning Honey Bun, as I sat on a rock by the small waterfall. A Honey Bun is usually my first breakfast, followed by a Poptart for the second breakfast a hour and a half later.

The first few hours of hiking this morning were uphill and along a ridgeline, both were one large continuous boulder field. I started to question if it would ever end. Slow going for sure. The morning wind had a surprise chill to it on the ridge, so I put on more clothes.

Around lunch time things warmed up. So I ate and then took a nap in the sun, laying flat in the dirt. It was wonderful.

Today, I hiked up and down mountains and through farm pastures. It was a good day today. Saw 1 deer today. Also had my first woodtick of the trip. I have been looking for them. Picked mine up in some prairie grass.

Started hiking at 7:30 a.m. and got to camp at about 7:30 p.m. after a 21 mile hike today. Climbed almost 4,000 feet in elevation today. Quickly made dinner and hurried to bed.

That rocky ridge was a warm-up for the White Mtns. of NH. Looks like lots of new growth popping along the trail.

Looks like warm weather headed your way Va sounds like a lot of rock…Quetion, Are the shelters usually pretty full, so you do the stealth site, and are you camped by yourself, or some through hiker trail hands join you? Keep pouding them miles,

I rarely stay at shelters, because most are full of mice and other people who make noise. I like quiet remote sites usually.
