I spent the weekend in Erwin, Tennessee resting. A lot of other hikers did the same thing.
Here are some interesting facts about Erwin. It has a nuclear fuel reprocessing plant in town, which is also the only source of nuclear fuel for the US Navy to power nuclear powered submarines and aircraft carriers.
Also in 1916, a circus elephant named Mary was publically executed here. 2,500 people came to watch the hanging. The elephant killed its human handler and the owner of the elephant made the decision to kill it. You can find more about this on the internet, if you wish.
The Battle of Red Banks was fought during the Civil War on land I am staying on while in town.
Met a female hiker here with the trail name “First Alert.” She says she got that name as she falls down a lot. First Alert is the company that advertises using the slogan “I’ve fallen and can’t get up.” I thought it was a funny trail name.
I will be back on the trail Sunday morning.

Hey Jason love the trail name first alert, you’re well rested now, so you should be able to do 24 25 mile days now, Easy for me to say while resting in my lounge chair.
Did you have the opportunity to reconnect with Godzilla? I’ll send you an email to catch up on other stuff.

Hi J. A restful weekend should be good for the soul… and the body! The Battle of Red Banks was fought Dec. 29th, 1964. The War officially ended on April 9th, 1865 when Gen. Lee surrendered to Gen. Grant at Appomattox Court House, VA (which is about 160 mi. NE of Damascus, near Lynchburg, VA). May you have sunny trails ahead!
