Spent the day mostly relaxing and resting at Stanimals Hiker Hostel in Waynesboro, VA. The place is super clean and has a nice relaxed atmosphere. I think it costs $30 a person to stay here, including shower and laundry, and pickup and return shuttle ride to the trail. It’s a super clean and nice place.
It was a pretty typical zero day. I walked to a nearby grocery store to resupply. A few of us called a Trail Angel for a ride to the local outfitter, which was too far away to walk to. 10 minutes later the Trail Angel shows up and dropped us off. When we were done, we called a second Trail Angel for a ride back to the hostel. I picked up a new pair of hiking shoes, my third pair. Same brand (Oboz), but a different model as they did not have my size in what I was wearing. Fingers crossed!
Had some food and conversations with other hikers. I went through my pack and sent home about 2 pounds of cold weather clothing I do not think I will need for a few months.
Called mom today and some other people important to me (did not call all of them!).
Hit the trail in the morning, for a week or so in Shanandoha National Park. Rumor has it it may be a wet week, but rumor does not make fact.
Good luck in Shanandoa. I hope your new boots work out well for you.

Happy you called your mom today! All my son’s checked in too, so know just how she felt. Just wishing I could call my mom. 🙂 You’ll be hiking all summer, right?

That looks like an upscale B&B, very nice. I think it’s awesome that people still offer that service. They could easily take advantage and charge a fortune. Sounds like you’re still having a great time. I hope the boots don’t rub you the wrong way 😉
Oh, thanks for the salamander photo. I miss seeing them. As a kid I was always finding them, snakes, and toads and stuff. You just don’t see them. That worries me. Glad we’re doing our part to help keep the planet clean.
Keep on keeping on!!!

The salamander said to thank you, in its little salamander voice.
