I hiked just shy of 22 miles today. Tonight I am camped next to a cascading stream. I sleep best near places like this.
It was a sunny, warm and pretty humid day today. Only a small portion of the trail still had flowing water and deep mud on it. For the most part the trail was in good shape considering the days of massive rain previously.
Most of the hike was in thick forest today. It was a beautiful forest though, the most amazing yet. Just the large size of trees and their spacing set it apart. Sky Meadows State Park was nice. Also walked through some more civil war areas.
Ran across a few day hikers and section hikers today. Overall, it was a pretty quiet day and I really enjoyed it. Saw a number of deer, orange newts and a few lizards.
I am having the time of my life out here. There are soooo many amazing things that are in front of me. I still can’t believe what I have done and experienced so far.
Thank you so much for the new photos, happy to see that you’re using your camera again. I just finished watching a program on the Shenandoah Valley and the Civil War events that took place there, a great deal of history happened there. You too will now have memories that are meaningful to you in this area.

Awesome, pictures! I’m so happy that you are there and having the time of your life. Unsure when you will realize what you are doing, maybe not until you are back with family and friends and sharing the stories of your trail experiences. Take care my friend
