Day 129

Woke up this morning and got hiking. The sky was clear, but clouds started building as the day progressed.

Hiked up to Killington Peak. It was a good climb. On top was a ski resort with a restaurant. I grabbed a burger.

Hiked down from the peak. The hike down was nice. Some claps of thunder and then a general thunderstorm came on the way down. Got wet, but it was a warm rain.

Crossed the 1,700 mile mark today.

I also passed a sign saying 500 miles to Katahdin. So I have less than that to go. I will admit it brought a tear to my eye after taking the photo and processing it in my mind. Sometimes, you just do not want something to end. I regrouped and put the focus back on to today and enjoying it. I am not ready to discuss this or think further of it. I have a lot of miles and a lot of amazing experiences left on this pilgrimage and that’s where the focus and energy shall be directed.

Got into Rutland, Vermont by hitchhiking, for some dinner at the famous Yellow Deli. The food was great, the people friendly. Decided to spend the night at the Yellow Deli Hiker Hostel. Gave me cold tea when I arrived, the place was clean and nice.

Maybe by the end of the week or so, I will enter the new State of New Hampshire.

Jason your pictures and narratives are absolutely beautiful and great. I really enjoy following you, what memories and a great book you can make when you get home. Only 500 miles to go, you’ll need another pair of shoes. 🤗

Just been reading about the Yellow Deli, it sounds great, you picked a good one. Did you have the cinnamon roll? Could you please bring a couple home? The hostel looks very nice also.

When I saw your picture Jessica had on FB today I wondered if you will feel sad when you’re done and then read this post. I know I will sure miss seeing your daily updates! I love everything about them-your humor, the descriptions of things you see and do, the pictures and your insight on how this is affecting you in so many ways. I’m so thrilled you are doing this and enjoying it so much! I hope your feet improve, I have a lot of foot pain so I hate to hear that. It sounds like you are doing a great job of keeping yourself healthy-keep it up!

Wow, seeing that picture of you next to the 500 miles to Katahdin sign really hits me! I can’t believe you’re so close! Still love seeing all the fantastic pics and hearing about your adventures. You are going to have to give a four hour “brown bag” lunch talk about this trip when you get back to the office! Keep on keepin’ on, buddy. We miss you and your laughter! I’m sure your trail mates are enjoying it, though. 🙂 Sorry to hear about your feet. Hope they don’t cause too much trouble.

so close, but yet so far away. a lot of hard work and big, rough mountains are ahead, especially the White Mountains.
